Saudi Pro League explained in one line: 18 clubs, 34 rounds, three points for a win, and a title race that this season looks like a straight fight between Al Hilal and Al Nassr, with Al Qadsiah refusing to go away. This guide covers how the competition works, who the main clubs are, and what the 2026-27 table says after 10 or 11 games.
How the Saudi Pro League Format Works
The Saudi Pro League is a plain double round-robin: each of the 18 clubs plays every other club home and away, for 34 matches per team. Wins are worth three points, draws one, losses nothing. One detail catches newcomers out: if two teams finish level on points, head-to-head record decides the order before goal difference does. The league is the top tier of Saudi football and is run by the Saudi Arabian Football Federation. For sponsorship reasons it is officially the Roshn Saudi League, a name it has carried since the 2022-23 season. The top division dates back to 1957, and the Saudi Pro League branding arrived in 2008.
The 2026-27 campaign is the 70th season of top-flight Saudi football. It kicked off on 13 August 2026 and is scheduled to finish on 29 May 2027. Bettors should mark one gap in the calendar: the league pauses from 24 December to 7 February because Saudi Arabia hosts the 2027 AFC Asian Cup. Squads can also change in the January window, so pre-break form may not hold.
Foreign Player Rules
Foreign quotas shape every squad in the league. For 2026-27 a club can register ten foreign players: eight of any age and two who must be aged 21 or younger. Only eight can be named as available for league matches, while ten can be used in the King’s Cup and Super Cup. Squads are capped at 25 players overall, with the rest made up of Saudi nationals.
Promotion and Relegation
The bottom three are relegated to the Saudi First Division League. Going the other way, the top two in the second tier go up automatically, and a play-off between the teams finishing third to sixth decides the final spot. Last season Al-Najma, Al-Okhdood and Damac went down. Abha came up as second-tier champions, Al-Faisaly returned after four seasons away, and Al-Diriyah won the play-off final to reach the top flight for the first time in their history.
2026-27 League Table and Current Standings
Al Hilal lead the table with nine wins from 10 games and the best goal difference in the league at +21. Al Nassr are second at 8-1-1, and Al Qadsiah sit third having played one game more than both. The top five have each lost three or fewer games, and the bottom two have yet to win a game. Promoted Abha have lost eight of their 10, and Al Taawoun have four draws and no wins from 11. Here is the full table as ESPN listed it on October 28 (record shown as W-D-L):

Top Clubs: Al Hilal, Al Nassr and the Big Four
Four clubs carry the league’s money and profile: Al Hilal, Al Nassr, Al Ittihad and Al Ahli. In June 2023 the Public Investment Fund took 75% stakes in all four. Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Karim Benzema, Sadio Mané and N’Golo Kanté all joined Saudi clubs in the same period. On the pitch in 2026-27, Al Hilal and Al Nassr set the pace, Al Ittihad and Al Ahli sit fourth and fifth, and Al Qadsiah are the one club outside that group in the top three.
Al Hilal
Al Hilal are the 19-time Saudi champions and the benchmark. Coach Simone Inzaghi arrived from Inter Milan in June 2025, and this summer the club added three attackers from Premier League clubs for a combined fee reported at more than $200 million: Gabriel Martinelli from Arsenal, Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa and Cyrenscio Summerville from West Ham. Their only league defeat this term was a 2-0 home loss to Neom in September, which ended a 47-game unbeaten league run and a perfect five-from-five start.
Al Nassr
Al Nassr are the club most UK and US fans know, because of Cristiano Ronaldo. Their 3-1 win at Al Faisaly last Friday was an eighth league win of the season, built on goals from Abdullah Al-Hamdan and Ângelo Gabriel and a João Félix free kick that Ronaldo claimed. The league credited him with his 982nd career goal; Opta, ESPN’s stats provider, scored it as an own goal by Andrei Girotto. Either way, the 41-year-old is chasing 1,000 career goals.
Al Qadsiah, Al Ittihad and Al Ahli
Al Qadsiah are the surprise package outside the PIF four, with eight wins and a +14 goal difference. Al Ittihad have lost only once, but two draws (7-2-1) leave them fourth. Al Ahli enter the season as Asian champions and have seven wins, yet three defeats already mean they need the leaders to stumble repeatedly.
Where the Title Race Stands
The title race is a two-horse race on current evidence, with a third rider tucked in behind. Al Hilal have dropped points in one game and Al Nassr in two, and both have played 10. Al Qadsiah have the same eight wins as Al Nassr but one more defeat and one more game played, so they need help from the top two. Because head-to-head comes before goal difference in the tie-break, the two meetings between Al Hilal and Al Nassr matter more than in a league like the Premier League.
The next round shows how the market sees the gap between the top and the rest. These are DraftKings prices via ESPN at the time of writing (UK kick-off times):
| Fixture (UK time) | Favourite price | Draw | Underdog price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Al Kholood at Al Nassr, Thu Oct 29, 18:00 | Al Nassr -500 | +600 | Al Kholood +900 |
| Al Qadsiah at Al Riyadh, Thu Oct 29, 18:00 | Al Qadsiah -340 | +450 | Al Riyadh +700 |
| Al Ittihad at Abha, Fri Oct 30, 12:30 | Al Ittihad -180 | +330 | Abha +390 |
| Al Ahli at Al Shabab, Fri Oct 30, 18:00 | Al Ahli +105 | +280 | Al Shabab +210 |
| Al Fateh at Al Hilal, Sat Oct 31, 18:00 | Al Hilal -1400 | +1100 | Al Fateh +1500 |
Short prices like Al Hilal at -1400 tell you the leaders rarely offer value on the moneyline against bottom-half sides. The more interesting number is Al Ittihad at -180 away to winless Abha, a price that has shortened from an opening -145. Title Race and Relegation Battle: What to Watch
The season splits into two leagues within a league: a two-horse title race with three more clubs close behind and a relegation scrap at the bottom, with the run-in starting after the 7 February restart. At the top, the question is whether Al Hilal’s Premier League signings keep converting chances after their one blank against Neom, and how quickly Cristiano Ronaldo closes on 1,000 career goals. At the bottom, Abha, Al Taawoun and Al Fateh have one win between them, which makes their meetings with the mid-table sides the matches that will decide the drop.
